David Simpson has been resolving employment law issues, disputes and cases his entire 35+ career, through practical advice, strategic negotiations, litigation, and as a mediator.
A graduate of UCLA (B.A. economics, phi beta kappa, summa cum laude ) and UCLA School of Law, David spent 4 years at a large downtown firm, then 4 more at a labor law boutique before co-founding his own employment law firm in 1990, where he represented employers and employees, corporations and individuals, plaintiffs and defendants. Simpson Employment Law is a spin-off from that practice.
David has personally litigated hundreds of cases, personally conducted 25+ trials to verdict, and handled numerous appeals in the state and federal courts, including the Supreme Court.
“Part of every case is a chess match, where you’re always trying to anticipate the other side’s next move.” David’s inside advantage is that he’s litigated and tried cases on behalf of both employers and employees. “When you know the other side’s playbook, because you’ve been the quarterback in their huddle… it means you also know how to beat all their best plays.”

David’s represented clients before the EEOC, DFEH, DOL, DLSE, EDD, OFCCP, WCAB, NLRB, etc., managing and resolving all manner of agency proceedings. He speaks and writes on employment law, civil practice, mediation and negotiation topics (including publishing “The SCV Employer” newsletter), and has been recognized by colleagues, opponents and the bench for his wide-ranging employment law expertise in discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage/hour, etc.
As a sometimes Adjunct Professor of Law at the Glendale University College of Law, David has taught trial practice, pre-trial litigation, and employment law. And for over a decade, David has been a USDC attorney settlement officer and private employment law mediator, drawing on his experience, expertise and negotiation skills to resolve labor and employment law disputes.
David is married, has 3 grown children, enjoys writing, hitting golf balls out of the right-side rough, rejoicing or grieving over UCLA basketball, and is an avid NASCAR fan. David recently competed in the World Series of Poker, and threatens completion of his first nonfiction book, Detecting Lies in Legal Proceedings, an attorney’s guide to human lie detection.
